Colonial Place/Riverview Community Email List (Listserv)

Listserv: This term looks like it's missing an "e", but that's how it's spelled. A listserv, or list server, is a small program that automatically sends messages to multiple e-mail addresses on a mailing list. When someone subscribes to a mailing list, the listserv will automatically add the address and distribute future e-mail messages to that address along with all the others on the list. When someone unsubscribes, the listserv simply removes the address. (from www.techterms.com/definition/listserv)

The Colonial Place/Riverview Community Email List (also known as the CPRV Listserv or CPRV Email List) is an unmoderated list that is not under the control of the CPRV Civic League. It is provided for our use and enjoyment by a former member of the community who hosts the email list and the official CPRV Civic League web site (www.cprv.org) at no cost to the community or the civic league.

Please note that anyone (in the whole world) can join an unmoderated listserv so do not post messages under the illusion that only people in our neighborhood are reading them. The usual cautions in posting anything online, particularly personal information, should be observed.

Listserv owners have the right to establish policy statements as well as other rules and regulations. Please read the CPRV Community Email List Policy before signing up as a member. Listservs in which members agree upon common principles are generally more effective than those in which “anything goes.”

As a member of the Colonial Place/Riverview Community Email List you have access to the archives. Skimming past postings is a good way to see how helpful the listserv has been been in the past, particularly in the area of crime prevention.

Colonial Place/Riverview Community Email List Policy

The CPRV mailing list exists for the use and enjoyment of the Colonial Place/Riverview community. Its primary purpose is to facilitate the sharing of information relevant to the neighborhood community it serves. Posts to the list are considered to be "on topic" when the content of the message has value or relevance to the CPRV community specifically.

The CPRV mailing list is not moderated. This does not mean that "anything goes". It simply means that nobody will review your post prior to distribution to the list participants. You message will go to many people fairly rapidly. So please consider exercising courtesy and restraint when posting your message to the entire group. "Off topic" and inherently divisive messages should be avoided. Self-serving commercial, political, religious, or vulgar messages; jokes; personal attacks; spam, are all specifically discouraged as they are directly contrary to the mailing list's primary purpose.
